Myristic acid is also called tetradecanoic acid. Crystallized from methanol is a white crystalline or leaflet-shaped waxy solid. It has a faint waxy and milky aroma. It exists naturally in fish oil, coconut oil, babassu oil and cottonseed oil. Relative Chemicalbook density 0.8439 (80°C). Melting point 58°C. Boiling point 250.5°C (13.3 kPa, 100 mmHg). Refractive index 1.4305 (60°C). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether.
