1,2-Dichlorobenzene, also known as o-dichlorobenzene, abbreviated as o-DCB, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H4Cl2. It is a colorless and volatile liquid with an aromatic aroma, insoluble in water, and soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene.

On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (WHO) was preliminarily sorted out for reference, and o-dichlorobenzene was included in the list of category 3 carcinogens.

  1. It can be used as a solvent for waxes, gums, resins, tar, rubber, oils, and asphalt. The solvent o-dichlorobenzene is used in the production of dyes such as Shilin black and Shilin yellow brown, high-end pigments, pharmaceutical chlorhexidine, and polyurethane raw materials such as TDI. This product can be used as an insecticide for termites, locusts and perforators, for the production of trichloromethane, threaxyl ester and neoyanling, and also for the synthesis of Catechol, fluorochloroaniline, 3,4-dichloroaniline and O-Phenylenediamine. As an anti rust and degreaser, it can remove carbon and lead from engine parts, remove coatings on metal surfaces without corroding metals, and remove sulfur from lighting gases.
  2. It can be used as an ingredient in metal polishing agents, and is also used in the dye industry to manufacture vat blue CLB and vat blue CLG. Polymer wet spinning solvent reduces fiber thermal shrinkage rate; Epoxy resin diluent, coolant, heat exchange medium; Pharmaceutical long-acting sulfonamide, etc.
  3. Due to its strong solubility, good permeability, and slow evaporation rate, it is used as an additive for nitro paint and varnish, as well as a solvent for wax and tar. It is also used as a degreasing agent in the metal, leather, automotive, and aircraft industries. Used as a rust inhibitor with a mixture of a small amount of higher alcohols. Other intermediates and organic heat carriers are also used in the manufacturing of refrigerants, fumigants, preservatives, dyes, pharmaceuticals, etc.
  4. Used for organic synthesis, dye manufacturing, cleaning agents, solvents. It is also used for the preparation of insecticides, cleaning agents, and solvents.
  5. Widely used as a solvent and preservative for organic compounds and non-ferrous metal oxides.
